The homeless youth has been freed under supervised bail conditions despite his no-show at a previous court hearing, which resulted in his arrest last year after a warrant was issued.
The teen’s lawyer argued for Thursday’s court hearing to be closed before the “circumstances” of the allegations were put to the court — a request denied by Children’s Court magistrate Jane Gibson.
The teen, now aged 18, has denied the allegations of sexual assault on his sister on three occasions when she was aged 13 and 14 between January 1, 2015 and June 1, 2016.
He was aged 14 to 16 when the alleged offences occurred.
The accused had been living in a car when he failed to attend court.
But bail was granted despite the court hearing he could spend nights at a backpackers hostel or hotel if his refuge accommodation fell through.
He allegedly punched his sister before sexually assaulting her in a bathroom in the first alleged rape. The second attack occurred on a couch and the third in a bedroom, the court heard.
He faces charges of rape, incest, making threats to kill, intending fear, intentionally causing injury, attempted rape, attempted incest and indecent assault. The youth’s next court hearing will be on February 2.
