A jailhouse love triangle has come to a bloody end, with one prisoner biting off another prisoner’s ear.
Violence erupted at the maximum-security Metropolitan Remand Centre in Ravenhall on Friday morning after a prisoner learned his partner was also in a relationship with a rival inmate.
The love-stung prisoner bit the other man’s ear clean off.
Prison guards rushed to the confrontation, restraining the inmates and putting the bloody ear on ice.
Paramedics treated the injured inmate before he was taken to hospital to have his ear sewn back on.
A prison insider said it was a chaotic scene.
“The reason for the confrontation is that the prisoner found out the other prisoner had his partner on his phone list,” he said.
“Staff located the ear and kept it on ice. The prison was sent to hospital to have the ear reattached.
“Must be a nice girl.”
A Corrections Victoria spokesman said the incident was being investigated by police.
“A prisoner was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following an altercation with another prisoner at the Metropolitan Remand Centre on Friday morning,” he said.

“Police have been notified and are investigating the incident.”
No staff were injured during the confrontation.
