More hoon drivers are losing their cars than ever, with Victoria Police seizing a record number of vehicles last year. And one Melbourne area accounted for more than a third of impounds.

Twice as many cars are being impounded by police than a decade ago as the number of hoon drivers caught on Victorian roads soars to a record high, new statistics reveal.
In 2018, 8239 vehicles were seized for hoon-related offences - up from 3129 in 2008.
Thousands were linked to drivers whose licences were disqualified or suspended while drink driving.

Speeding and various forms of dangerous driving were also problems.
Hume, in Melbourne’s north, saw the most cars seized with 3523 impounds in the decade.
More than 1000 drivers had their cars seized after being caught speeding more than 45km/h over the legal limit.
Another eight were impounded for participating in street races.
Three motorists were found to have driven at emergency workers.
Brimbank, in Melbourne’s northwest, was the second-worst area for hoon impounds, with 3403 since 2008.
Wyndham, in the city’s west, accounted for 1831 impounds and Moreland, in the inner north, 1774.
Greater Dandenong and Frankston, in Melbourne’s southeast, were also troublespots for misbehaving drivers, with 2484 impounds in Dandenong and 2217 in Frankston.

While younger drivers were among the worst offenders, it was drivers aged over 31 that racked up the highest number (19,566).
Drivers aged between 20 to 25 and over 31 made up more than 60 per cent of all seizures.
