The 18-year-old Echuca man faced Bendigo Magistrates’ Court today after he was charged by Victorian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) officers.
Detectives from the JACET — a partnership between the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police — raided the man’s home yesterday morning and arrested him.
“Police will allege that the man used mobile application Snapchat to transmit abuse of a child under the age of 12 years to another user,” an AFP spokesman said.
He was taken to Echuca police station where he was charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 12 years and transmitting child exploitation material.
Further charges have not been ruled out.
The man was bailed to appear back at court on May 30.
Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child exploitation material are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
