Two men have been arrested over the shooting of a man in Point Cook on Thursday night.

The man, 53, was reportedly shot in the face during the ordeal and is still fighting for life in hospital.

Neighbours told the Herald Sun the victim was left laying in the middle of the street after the shooting at Spraypoint Drive at about 11pm on Thursday night.

A light coloured ute was seen speeding away from the scene.

A 29-year-old Point Cook man was this morning arrested in Nagambie, about 152km from the crime scene.

A 30-year-old man was also arrested in Point Cook.

Both men are assisting Homicide Squad detectives as they investigate the circumstances behind the shooting.

Yesterday detectives searched the road outside a two-storey home where neighbours allege the man was shot.

The road was then hosed down as forensic investigators continue to search a number of vehicles outside the home.

A neighbour, who lives a couple of houses away from the home being searched, heard a loud bang before a car took off down the street.

“I was awake … I heard a big bang and I saw a white ute driving,” she said.

“I heard just one (gunshot). I thought something had crashed — like cars (were) hit.”

The nieghbour didn’t realise a man had been shot until she walked onto her balcony to investigate the sound.

“I saw the body … in the middle on the street.”

“I just went inside and in less than a minute police and ambulance arrived. I was scared.”

She  said a white ute was often seen at the Point Cook home, but didn’t know who lived there.

“The only thing I notice was cars going there,” she said.

She thought the residents had only recently moved in and had only seen men coming and going from the property.

Neighbours said many properties in the Point Cook estate were used for short stay accommodation.

She said it was usually quiet.

“It’s a residential area — it shouldn’t happen.”

It’s unclear whether the shooter and the victim were known to each other.

This morning forensic investigators were dusting two Volkswagens parked outside the address for evidence, one of which has red P plates displayed.

A third car, with New South Wales number plates, was also being searched.

A man who showed up at the scene said he had tried to call a man who lives at the property police are investigating, but hadn’t heard from him all day.

He said he had “no idea” what was going on.

“I haven’t heard from him and no one is answering their phones,” he said.

He said the man ran a small handyman business.
