SECRET BEACHES WORTH DISCOVERING
THE WYNDHAM NEWS YOU CAN’T MISS
9. Big Nick’s Pizza, 4/210 Ballan Rd, Wyndham Vale
This family-owned pizza parlour’s motto is “big taste, big value and big freshness”. While it serves up the traditional favourites like the supreme, capricciosa, Hawaiian and Aussie, Big Nick’s also offers up some downright unusual flavour pairings.
We’re talking the Tuna Peach pizza, with tomato sauce, mozzarella, tuna, roasted red capsicum and peach finished off with mayonnaise. We haven’t tried it, but we’re not sure we want to either.
You can also tuck into a baked bean pizza with mozzarella and — you guess it — baked beans.
Diners can also choose from a selection of pastas, pork ribs with chips and salad, chicken parmas and fish and chips.
Finish it off with something from the dessert range, including tubs of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
Big Nick’s offers delivery to Wyndham Vale, Werribee and Manor Lakes and you can order online.
8. Westside Pizza Boys, 1/86 Cottrell St, Werribee
Very much your old school pizza place, Westside Pizza Boys dishes up all the usual suspects as well as some less traditional options like the satay chicken, Thai chilli chicken and spaghetti pizza.
Pastas and risottos and ribs are also on the menu.
The team at Westside Pizza Boys deliver to Hoppers Crossing, Little River, Tarneit, Werribee and Wyndham Vale.
7. Village Pizza Pronto, Cnr Tarneit and Shaws roads, Werribee
This family-owned and run pizza joint has been around for a couple of decades and has developed a pretty loyal following in that time.
The Facebook reviews are glowing: “by far the best pizza I’ve ever had”, “the customer service is second to none” and “fantastic pizzas that taste great fresh from the oven and just as good from the fridge for breakfast the next day” are just some of the things people had to say about this little Werribee gem.
The team seem to have the recipe down pat — cheap and cheerful food and great staff (with a good sense of humour by look of things!).
6. Ages Pizza Place, 2/202 Watton St, Werribee
The self-proclaimed ‘Ferrari of pizza’, Ages Pizza Place offers diners hearty food and picturesque views overlooking Werribee River.
Thursday is family day, where the kids can eat free when dining with an adult and the venue is available to hire for parties.
Takeaway and delivery are also available, along with an extensive range of pasta dishes and Italian favourites like veal scallopini and calamari fritti.
5. Elio Italian Family Bistro, 39 Old Geelong Rd, Hoppers Crossing
If you’re after Halal pizza options in the west, you can’t go past Elio’s.
Launched in September, the HSP pizza — with tomato, cheese, Halal pieces, mushroom and onion — has proved popular among patrons.
Elio’s also offers gluten-free bases, all the traditional pizza toppings you’d expect to find plus a few gourmet options, including Tandoori chicken and spaghetti pizzas.
They also offer main meals, pasta, noodles and a range of gelati.
Elio’s Italian Family Bistro delivers to Hoppers Crossing, Werribee, Point Cook, Tarneit, Williams Landing and Truganina.
4. Uncle Leo’s Pizzeria, 62 Watton St, Werribee
“Good, honest dirty pizza” at its best, according to one review on TripAdvisor, “best pizza in Werribee” according to another.
Serving up all the ‘normal’ pizzas, plus a spaghetti pizza and the ‘after burner’, which comes with hot salami, capsicum, pineapple and hot chillies.
3. Pizza Kings Tarneit, 1/540 Tarneit Rd, Tarneit
Pizza Kings didn’t quite take out the crown but third place isn’t bad.
If nachos and pizza had a love child, it’d be the ‘Chef’s Special’ at this joint — bolognese sauce, corn chips and sour cream. Our interest is definitely piqued.
They also have Nutella pizza, but probably not as you know it. These slices have a savoury bent with the beloved hazelnut-chocolate spread paired with cheese and oregano.
Of course, if you’d rather go down the more traditional route there’s plenty to satisfy you there too.
2. Big Brother’s Pizza, 34b Synnot St, Werribee
There’s plenty of variety to sink your teeth into here with most corners of the globe represented on a pizza.
Sink your teeth into a slice of Cajun chicken (with capsicum and jalapeños), munch on a morsel of spicy masala vegetarian pizza (with mozzarella, mushrooms, capsicum, onion, olives and jalapeños) or try out the Macedonian (ham, salami, capsicum, jalapeños and chilli flakes).
You can also get an Aussie, a Mexican, an American, a Mediterranean lamb or a tandoori chicken pizza.
Big Brother’s has been around for about a decade and offers late night delivery on weekends, as well as dine-in options.
1. Ohana Pizza, 50 Quay Blvd, Wyndham Harbour, Werribee South
This is it, folks. Your top pick for pizza in Wyndham.
Ohana means family in Hawaiian, and the vibe around the place is pretty much that of one big, happy family.
The pillowy-crusted woodfired pizzas at Ohana are a hit, as is the venue itself.
Housed in three 40ft shipping containers on the Wyndham Harbour foreshore and boasting panoramic views of the city skyline, this is the perfect venue for a get-together with family and friends (including those of the four-legged kind).
It’s less “let’s order pizza so we don’t have to cook” and more “the weather’s nice so how about catching up over wine and pizza?”.
Don’t expect your order to come piled high with toppings, but you can expect the flavours to fill your mouth.
