Comanchero bikie boss Mick Murray has been arrested by heavily armed police acting for detectives investigating three high-profile Melbourne murders.

Murray was detained on Thursday morning by members of the Special Operations Group, as part of an investigation by the Sector taskforce.

A search warrant was executed at the Glen Waverley home in Melbourne’s southeast raided by the elite SOG.

Murray — national president of the Comancheros and for years a target of the anti-bikie Echo taskforce — was later released without charge.

Sector is investigating the gangland-style murder of Mitat Rasimi at Dandenong in March, and the double-fatal drive-by shooting outside the Love Machine nightclub in Prahran in April

The Comancheros, an international outlaw motorcycle gang, and their associates have come under intense scrutiny in Victoria recently.

Gang members and figures linked to the organisation were arrested last week in a day of sweeping raids across Melbourne by Sector investigators.

A day later, gangland figure Nabil Maghnie was arrested at his home by Sector officers, questioned and later released without charge.

Suspected of having Comanchero links, he is on bail in relation to serious driving charges.

Thursday’s arrest came during what has been a trying period for Murray.

In August he was granted bail on more than 100 fraud-related charges, freeing him for a Thai holiday. But Bangkok authorities barred his entry and sent him back to Tullamarine.

Sector detectives have for more than six months been probing possible links between suspects in the Rasimi and Love Machine killings.

Rasimi, a former associate of Tony Mokbel, was ambushed in his car at Dandenong in March, suffering severe bullet wounds before crashing into a pole as he tried to escape. Richard Ene of Hampton Park was last week charged with murder.

In April, Love Machine security guard Aaron Osmani and patron Richard Arow died when the venue was sprayed with gunfire in a late-night drive-by attack. Three men have been charged.

Jacob Elliott, the 18-year-old son of Maghnie, and his mate Allan Fares, 22, are facing two counts of murder.

Moussa Hamka, 25, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, possessing a firearm, stalking and making threats to kill.
