New clue emerges as police hunt for Mitat Rasimi's killer

A burly smoker with a distinctive gait has emerged as a man of interest in the gangland hit on crime figure Mitat Rasimi.

Homicide squad investigators have released images of the man walking to and from an orange Ford Ranger ute about the time of the murder.

The Herald Sun revealed last week that the Ford was believed to have been used by those who shot Rasimi dead at Dandenong on the night of March 3 this year.

Rasimi — a former associate of Tony Mokbel — was shot dead as he sat in his car in Dawn Ave.

Detective Insp Andrew Stamper said police had made significant progress in the past week.

Investigators had been able to establish the orange ute had been driven in Melton, Endeavour Hills, Hallam, Hampton Park and Dandenong in the period before Rasimi’s murder.

“We also have CCTV of the orange ute, which we’ve released today, driving in one particular area on a number of occasions; this has led us to believe that those involved were performing reconnaissance on Mr Rasimi,” he said yesterday.

Insp Stamper described his walk as distinctive and said he is believed to be a smoker.

A gunman ambushed Rasimi, 51, as he sat in his Peugeot at 9.55pm.

He drove away from the shooter but smashed into a pole where he was found dead from gunshot injuries.
