Melburnians might be sweating through another hot day, but health chiefs have warned of a high thunderstorm asthma risk when the cool change hits later today. Here’s everything you need to know about the weekend weather.

Victorians have been warned about the risk of thunderstorm asthma.
Health chiefs have issued thunderstorm asthma warnings for Thunderstorm asthma warnings for parts of the state, with a high and moderate risk in the western districts.
“Anyone who has asthma, anyone who has hayfever and especially those who have both … are at particular risk of thunderstorm asthma,” Victoria’s chief health officer Dr Brett Sutton told 3AW this morning.
“We’re not talking about a probable event, we’re talking about the conditions being present for a thunderstorm event,” he said.
After reaching 35C, the temperature is again set to soar towards 34C in Melbourne today.
But it’s expected to drop to 24C tomorrow and 22C on Sunday as rainy conditions move back to Melbourne.

The stifling heat experienced on Thursday and the high temperatures expected today, is being driven by a big high in the Tasman Sea and a trough south of Western Australia that’s dragging hot air over most of southeastern Australia.
With the temperature reaching 35C in Gippsland yesterday, the towns of Sale, Bairnsdale and Orbots both broke records for their previous hottest October day ever.
The previous record highs in October were recorded in 2006 for Sale and Orbost, and in 2012 for Bairnsdale.
Rain will follow tomorrow as punters get dressed up for Derby Day.
“The weather will turn late on Friday before Derby Day on Saturday and we will see quite unsettled tropical conditions,” Mr Efron said.
Moderate to heavy rain is expected to fall in northeast Victoria for most of Saturday, causing potentially hazardous conditions.
Unwelcome news for organisers of the inaugural Land of Plenty music festival in Shepparton,
Bureau of Meteorology extreme weather forecaster Sarah Scully said that some parts of the southern coast, including Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, would see maximum temperatures “between 12C and 16C above the October average”.
“Broadly speaking across most of Victoria or southeast Australia it looks to be the warmest October day since 2015,” she said.

“There’s a lot of moisture in the air and we expect it to be a fairly active cloudbank with thunderstorms and showers and the potential for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.”
She said that while 16C above average seems like a lot, it’s actually fairly normal for these “in-between seasons”.
“It’s quite common, certainly not unprecedented … to see high maximum temperatures followed by big temperature drops. That’s common during these transition seasons as the weather is fighting between the winter and the summer.”
