A BOY aged 12 is among the children accused of stealing a car in Melbourne’s east, with an off-duty police officer playing a part in nabbing the gang.

A 12-year-old boy is among a group of youths charged with stealing a car in Melbourne’s east.
Four children were arrested on Tuesday night after an off-duty police officer spotted them driving an allegedly stolen car along the Mountain Highway in Boronia about 5pm on Tuesday.

A 12-year-old boy, 15-year-old boy, 14-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy have been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and other theft-related offences.
Leading Senior Constable Paul Turner said police managed to stop the vehicle on Dorset Rd without incident.
They are due to face a children’s court at a later time.
