The 21-year-old allegedly did not hold a licence and was driving a stolen car when he ploughed through a pedestrian crossing and hit Michelle Nash and seven children — including her two young daughters — on Friday.

He allegedly fled the scene and was not arrested until Monday.

Mr Su’a, from Pakenham, stared straight ahead as he briefly faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with 41 offences.

He made no attempt at bail and was told his case wouldn’t return to court until June 12.

Police asked for more time than usual to prepare their case saying they needed to take statements from up to 50 people.

An inspection of the car must also be conducted, the court heard.

Police have charged Mr Su’a with theft of a motor vehicle and multiple counts of speeding in a dangerous manner, reckless conduct causing serious injury, unlicensed driving and failing to render assistance and failing to report an accident.

Charge sheets allege he was driving at “excessive speed” through the intersection of Grandvue Boulevard and Princes Hwy when he mounted a pedestrian island and struck several people about 3.30pm.

Speaking to the Herald Sun from her hospital bed, Ms Nash, 35, said she had just picked up her two daughters, Tayla and Chelsey, from St Claire’s Primary School and was waiting to cross the road when she saw the ute screeching towards them.

“There was no time to get out of the way,” she said.

The next thing she heard was the screams of the seven children who were lying injured around the busy intersection.

Ms Nash suffered a dozen broken bones in her back, shoulders and ribs.

She said it was a miracle no one was killed.

Police will allege Mr Su’a had earlier stolen the Holden Commodore ute from Officer.
