A POLICE dog squad unit has narrowly avoided a head-on collision with an adult probationary driver allegedly travelling on the wrong side of a freeway overnight.
The police officer was driving along the Western Freeway in Rockbank when he saw car headlights coming directly toward him about 12.30am.

He was forced to swerve action to avoid a head-on collision.
Another police unit found the vehicle — still on the wrong side of the road — driving down Hopkins Road a short time later.
Police allege it narrowly avoided hitting several other cars, which were forced to swerve out of the offending car.
It was eventually pulled over further down the highway and the driver was arrested.
A 53-year-old Braybrook man, who was driving on P plates, had his car impounded immediately.
He has been released pending summons and is expected to be charged on summons with conduct endangering life and other traffic related offences.
It comes after disturbing footage emerged yesterday of a driver on the wrong side of a road on Torquay’s Esplanade.
