Initial testing of the substance returned positive results for methamphetamine.

The woman has been charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug which can carry a maximum sentence of life in jail.

Acting Commander Krissy Barrett said the AFP will continue to work closely with its Australian Border Force partners to target illegal drug importations and prevent these substances from making it into Australia.

“In this case, the combined efforts of both our agencies has seen approximately 40,000 hits of meth seized and this woman facing serious importation charges,” Acting Commander Barrett said.

ABF Regional Commander for Victoria, Craig Palmer, commended the actions of federal police officers.

“Our officers are trained to detect and deter any attempt to smuggle illicit substances into our community, no matter how cleverly concealed or how innocent the concealment may appear,” Regional Commander Palmer said.

The 21-year-old Malaysian woman has been remanded in custody until Tuesday August 28, where she will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
