A SUSPECTED armed shooter is on the run after a violent neighbourhood dispute over a parking spot in Melton South.

The alleged gunman fled after reportedly shooting his neighbour in the leg yesterday.

“It nicked me. Left a little home,” the victim told 7 News.

The fight erupted about 10am after the partner of the shooting victim confronted the neighbour over parking outside their Moss Street home.

It is claimed the dispute ended in gunfire, and the alleged shooter fleeing the scene.

“It was just a fight, mate ... over a nature strip to be honest, mate,” the man said.

However, the suspected gunman’s mum said her son was the victim.

She claimed he was repeatedly struck over the head and face with a hammer and that no shots were fired.

Heavily armed Critical Incident Response Team officers rounded on the alleged shooters house but he had already left.

Bullet casings were found at the scene.

Police last night confirmed they were searching for a man over the incident, and that a 47-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were assisting with their inquiries.

They said no was injured and paramedics did not attend.
