Happy Patti Newton brushes off Matthew wedding rumour, says son is in ‘good place’

PATTI Newton has spoken of her delight at the “good place” her son Matthew is in following reports he had recently tied the knot in New York.

Speculation Matthew had wed Catherine Schneiderman, the daughter of New York Attorney-General Eric Schneiderman, in a private civil service in the Big Apple went into overdrive last week after pictures emerged of the couple sporting what looked like wedding bands.

“I have never known Matthew to be happier and we are happy that he is happy,” Patti told 3AW’s Nightline program.

“So you know what, I don’t care what they write, I don’t care what anyone says, if he is happy we are happy and he is in a very good place, so what more could you want?”

Patti did not address the marriage rumours.

“I don’t talk about Matthew’s private life because it is his life.”

After years of legal and personal woes, Matthew moved to New York and has pretty much avoided the spotlight and trouble while building a career as a director.

He said in April he had been sober for five years.
