GARRY Lyon has taken a journey of love to the Big Apple with Nicky Brownless, as the date for his return to the airwaves looms.
Meanwhile Billy Brownless, Lyon’s former best mate and the ex-husband of Nicky, aced the tennis on Friday night, stepping out with gal pal Lexi McNeil at the Australian Open.
The former best mates and Footy Show buddies are very much moving on with their lives following a year of turmoil after Lyon’s relationship with Billy’s ex-wife Nicky was exposed.
Billy said yesterday he and McNeil, a 31-year-old finance executive, were at the tennis as mates, not on a date.
“Lexi is a good friend who loves the tennis. I have known her for while. I was given a couple of tickets to tennis and I asked her two weeks ago if she would like to come along,’’ he said.
Asked if he was back in the dating game Billy quipped: “Well I am definitely not on Tinder yet.’’
While Billy and McNeil played a love all game at Rod Laver Arena, Lyon and Nicky were presumably shaking off the jet lag following their romantic New York escape.
It’s believed they arrived back in Melbourne midweek having enjoyed nights on Broadway and cultural moments at the theatre.
In fact it was at a show that a Melbourne traveller heard an Aussie accent in the row behind and turned to discover SEN’s high-priced new signing and Nicky happily waiting for the curtain to go up.
New York has been a favoured destination for both Nicky and Lyon individually before they started seeing each other.
Lyon’s overseas jaunt comes after he inked a deal in October for a secluded $2 million Main Ridge property.
With his holiday behind him, `lone wolf’ Lyon will return from his self-imposed exile to host sports radio station SEN’s breakfast show next Monday.
While Melbourne’s other major breakfast radio teams are back from their summer hiatus and kick off the ratings year on Monday, SEN has opted to launch its much hyped new breakfast line up a week later.
It is seemingly an odd move by a team that is vowing to take the game up to its opposition this year.
