A man has been hospitalised in a serious condition following an alleged hit and run on the Gold Coast in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police have one person in custody after the incident, which occured in central Burleigh Heads. Emergency services were called to Goodwin Terrace about 1.10am to reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle while crossing the road.

“A 28-year-old Deception Bay man, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital” a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said in a statement.

“The vehicle, a silver Nissan Navara dual cab utility with a canopy and black snorkel on the passenger side, did not stop and continued driving.

“It was last seen travelling north along the Gold Coast Highway before turning onto Christine Avenue where it continued travelling west.”

Just after 5am officers at Coomera arrested a 19-year-old man as part of their investigations.

“He is continuing to assist police with their enquiries” the QPS spokesman said.

“Witnesses or anyone with relevant vision are urged to come forward.”

No charges have been laid over the alleged hit and run.
