Police will allege that a 28-year-old man – in hospital with two broken legs and head injuries – was deliberately run over when he was hit by a car at Burleigh Heads.

The Deception Bay man remains in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a silver Nissan Navara at Goodwin Terrace at about 1.20am on Sunday.

A 19-year-old Pimpama man was arrested four hours later after surrendering to police at Coomera and charged with dangerous operation of vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and failing to remain at incident and render assistance.

Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles said police will allege that the incident happened after the two men got into a dispute at a nearby park.

“It happened in the parkland at Goodwin Terrace. Apparently (the man charged) and two others have attended the parkland. They bumped into somebody else there, a dispute occurred. They weren’t known to each other prior to the incident,” he alleged.

“A dispute occurred in the parkland and unfortunately he has allegedly decided to take matters into his own hand and actually struck him with a motor vehicle as he was walking away,” Acting Supt Knowles alleged.

The injured man suffered internal injuries, two broken legs and head injuries. He is expected to remain Gold Coast University Hospital for some time.

The man charged with allegedly causing his injuries will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on November 4.
