A magistrate warned a Gold Coast man he was on his “last chance” after escaping conviction for assaulting a tram worker.

Sean Bradley Joseph, 20, pleaded guilty to common assault in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday after he threw a drink on the worker on December 19.

The staff member had approached Joseph to do a ticket inspection during a stop in Southport, the court heard.

When he was unable to produce a ticket, Joseph was asked for his contact details.

During this exchange, the 20-year-old threw the contents of his McDonald’s drink container on the tram worker then fled the scene.

The court was told Joseph was intoxicated during the incident and was embarrassed by his actions.

Magistrate Mark Howden noted Joseph’s criminal history included a stealing charge just days before the assault and a wilful damage charge in October.

“This is your first time before the court for a violent type of offence. If you’re going to behave like this in the future, you’re going to have convictions recorded,” he said.

“You’re only young and it’s going to have a big impact on your future.”

“That’s your last chance,” Magistrate Howden said after he fined Joseph $350.

No conviction was recorded.
