When it comes to having real “a-peel” to collectors, Billy the gold banana is proving to be the pick of the bunch.

There are only 100 mini gold bananas available nationally as part of the Coles Fresh Stikeez fruit and vegetable collection, and only 15 have been found.

Readers can get a free Stikeez when they buy the paper on March 2-3 at Coles.

Each Billy bears real fruit, rewarded with a $100 Coles voucher.

A Coles spokeswoman said customers were also going bananas over four other
rare Stikeez — sparkly Cooper carrot, shiny Eddie eggplant, see-through Brodie broccoli, and glow-in-the-dark Carlo cucumber.

“These special-effects Stikeez are rarer than the original set, so are causing a bit of excitement among customers who are not sure why their Stikeez glows or is sparkly,” the spokeswoman said.

There are 24 Stikeez in the set that aims to get children eating a variety of fresh produce.

Readers can get a free randomly selected Stikeez when they buy the Saturday Herald Sun or Sunday Herald Sun at Coles or Coles Express stores this weekend.
