THERE was little separating Modewarre and Ocean Grove throughout a “hard-fought contest” on the court, with the Grubbers scraping over the line in a thrill.
Ocean Grove led at every break but by never more than four goals, and eventually finished 53-50 victors.
Modewarre coach Courtney Trigg said it was a tough battle between two good sides.
“It was a really close, hard fought game, there were plenty of positives to take out of that game,” she said.
“It was goal for goal all the way through to the end, we kept coming back and getting to even but we couldn’t get there in the end.
“Everyone played their part well, we had a few outs with Covid and the flu that’s going around at the moment.
“A tough game like this gives us an idea where we sit, obviously it’s a pretty tight competition this year so we’re happy to be fourth at the moment.
Geelong Amateurs v Barwon Heads
After a tight opening half, Geelong Amateurs were able to pile on the misery for Barwon Heads, running out 53-36 winners.
The score was locked for much of the opening half and the Ammos led 21-18 at the main break, but 31 goals to Ammos goal shooter Georgia Duncan allowed the top side open up a commanding lead.
Torquay v Newcomb
Torquay continued its undefeated run with a comprehensive 55-36 victory against Newcomb.
A 27-16 second half set up the 19-goal victory, with Torquay now second on the ladder behind Geelong Amateurs.
Portarlington v Queenscliff
37 goals to Queenscliff goal shooter Kaitlin Gladman set up a strong win against Portarlington.
The Coutas ran out 50-22 victors against Portarlington, with Millie O’Shea also strong for Queenscliff.
