Drysdale continued its unbeaten start to the BFL season, claiming another strong win at the hands of Queenscliff.
The Hawks kicked four goals into the wind in the first quarter, before gaining ascendancy and running out 18.21 (129) to 7.10 (52) winners over the Coutas.
Drysdale co-coach Ben Carmichael said the game was played in tricky conditions but the squad showed its class.
“It was pretty breezy and a bit wet down here, so to get four goals into the wind set us up really well in the first quarter,” he said.
“There have been challenges throughout the year that the boys have answered, after the first time against Queenscliff we knew today would be another one.
“We were calling on experiences, and we had a good result.”
Forwards James Breust and Matthew Gunn kicked three goals each for the Hawks, while co-coach Tom Ruggles and small forward Ben Fennell, who both slotted two, were lively throughout.
Queenscliff coach Rory Nicol said despite the loss he was happy with the performance from his group.
“We’re at a different stage of our journey than Drysdale, we’re a really young side that’s still coming through and they’re challenging for a premiership,” he said.
“We had measurable KPIs coming into the game, and little wins we wanted to achieve along the way, so we actually were coming out of that game with some real positives.
“Even though the scoreboard said we lost by 13 goals, we weren’t disheartened.”
Barwon Heads v Anglesea
The Seagulls fired warning shots for the rest of the league with a massive 102 point win against Anglesea.
Barwon Heads kicked 17 goals in the second half to run out 29.6 (180) to 12.6 (78) victors against the Kangaroos.
Forward Nathan Brown had seven goals for Barwon Heads, while Sammy Baker slotted five majors in the win.
Modewarre v Geelong Amateur
Modewarre widened the gap between fourth and fifth on the ladder with a strong 20.8 (128) to 11.6 (72) victory against Geelong Amateur.
Tom Hornsey and Connor Joseph kicked five goals each for Modewarre, while Max Hungerford had three majors for the Ammos in the loss.
The win gives Modewarre an eight-point buffer on Ammos, who occupy fifth on the BFL ladder.
Torquay v Portarlington
Torquay piled on the pain for Portarlington, kicking at least seven goals in each quarter to run out 231-point victors.
Callum Currie kicked nine goals to lead the game, but his Torquay teammates Charlie Johnson (five), Sheldon Ham (four), Cooper Heard and Clay Page (three each) joined in on the way to a 36.24 (240) to 1.3 (9) victory.
Newcomb v Ocean Grove
The Grubbers secured its second consecutive win with a 8.14 (62) to 8.7 (55) win against Newcomb.
Ocean Grove trailed by 22 points at the final break, but kicked 4.6 to one point in the fourth quarter to run out seven-point winners.
