Alice Clarke: Yoshi’s Crafted World a darling game you deserve

Is there such a thing as too adorable? Absolutely, but luckily Yoshi’s Crafted World manages to walk that fine line with great skill. While it looks like it was created by a Play School host on steroids, it’s perfect for kids and adults alike looking to escape.

Is there such a thing as too adorable? Absolutely, but luckily Yoshi’s Crafted World manages to walk that fine line with great skill.

This game is what would happen if Super Mario Galaxy and Kirby’s Epic Yarn had felted 2.5D babies that could eat their enemies and turn them into eggs.

The 2.5D is because while this is basically a side-scrolling platformer, you can flip the levels a little by going on paths that take you further forward or put you into the background.

You have to stick to the paths, but sometimes there are hidden passages designed to surprise and delight.

KIRBY’S EPIC YARN PERFECT GAME FOR KIDS

This world looks like it was created by a Play School host on steroids. The cardboard world doesn’t look perfect, there are rough edges, but the details hidden everywhere, and the care with which it’s been constructed makes an already extremely charming game just darling.

One of the things that makes Yoshi’s Crafted World wonderful is that it seems to remember that children exist and sometimes like to play video games.

Although the difficulty does increase somewhat as you play on, for the most part this game is pretty easy for adults, but still extremely engaging.

Kids who might not play too many video games, or for whom this might be their first ever platforming game, are absolutely going to love it.

With two-player this is a game that some less-talented gaming children will be able to play with their siblings and have fun.

That difficulty also makes it a great game for when you’re jet-lagged and stuck on a plane for a dozen hours, or had a hard day at work and just want to escape for a while.

Is this going to appeal to people who want their games to be brutal? No. But it is going to appeal to people who want their games to be fun, and sometimes that’s all that matters.

You do need to try not to think about that whole “Yoshi eats the bodies of his enemies, turns them into eggs, and then throws the unborn at enemies and objects he finds inconvenient”, though. That’s a nightmare waiting to happen.

Bottom line: This game is beautiful, and frankly you deserve it.
