Anti-masker — Someone who refuses to wear a face-covering because they believe it is a breach of their rights.

B.C / A. C — Before coronavirus /after coronavirus.

Boomer Remover — The belief of some Millennials and Gen Zs that coronavirus only affects the older generation.

Blursday — Originally described the day spent hungover, it’s now used to describe the feeling of not knowing what day of the week it is anymore.

Chaturbate — Sexual activity that may happen via messenger or SMS during the pandemic.

Cornteen — An intentional misspelling of quarantine, often used in ironic commentary on what it is like to be at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Coronabae — Your romantic partner in lockdown.

Coronababies / Coronials — Children conceived during lockdown.

Corona Bonus – An unexpected benefit of the pandemic such as paid leave or a stimulus cheque.

Coronacation — Coronavirus-compelled staycation /time off work/ making most of staying in one place.

Coronacoma — A long period of shutdown, or a good lockdown sleep.

Corona Cut – The decision on which friends, relatives, partners to spend lockdown with; or using the pandemic as an excuse to not see them.

Coronageddon — Abbreviation of coronavirus and armageddon.

Covidcut — A bad haircut your partner gives you during lockdown.

Covideos — Silly but entertaining videos people make at home.

Covidiot — An insult for someone who disregards health and safety guidelines.

Covidivorce — A relationship breakdown exacerbated/caused by lockdown.

Doom-scrolling — Constantly refreshing our feeds for the latest news about the pandemic.

Iso — isolation.

Bunnings Karen is an ‘anti-masker’, but some may also say a ‘morona’ or a ‘covidiot’.

Isobar — A fridge full of alcohol or a minibar fridge used to stockpile booze at home.

Karen — Name coined for a wilful, entitled, selfish coronavirus rule breaker/complainer.

Magpie — Someone who grabs up all supermarket supplies of goods such as toilet paper.

Miley Cyrus — Rhyming slang for coronavirus. Can be shortened to Miley.

Morona — Similar to ‘covidiot’, a person who is acting stupidly during the pandemic.

Moronavirus — Another insult for safety guideline breachers.

Quarangut — The weight put on while in lockdown because there is nothing else to do except eat and drink (AKA ‘Pandemic Belly’, ‘COVIDkilos’).

Quarantine and chill — A variation on ‘Netflix and chill’— a night at home with a partner; can also refer to hooking up with a stranger during the pandemic.

Quarantini — A homemade cocktail prepared while in home quarantine. Has spread as a more general term for alcoholic beverages consumed at home during the pandemic.

Rona — Playful or ironic way to refer to COVID-19.

Sanny — Hand sanitiser.

Virtual happy hour — When people in lockdown let off steam with drinks over Zoom, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, and other video conferencing or chat applications.

Walktail — Taking your drink (sometimes a cocktail) while you go out for a walk.

WFH — Work from home acronym.

Zoom-bombing — When people join virtual meetings, uninvited, and sometimes disrupt it with obscene, violent, or offensive images or words.

Zumping — Dumping a partner on zoom or another chat platform.
