Spring racing is onto the next adventure, and the Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup was next up and ready to shine.
Hosted at the Cranbourne Turf Club, hundreds of guests flocked through the gates from 10.30am on Saturday to enjoy the horse racing and plenty of trackside action.
Attendees enjoyed all the punting, food trucks, live entertainment and fashionistas entered into the fashions on the field competition for their chance to win some valuable prizes.
With the weather reaching a staggering temperature of almost 40C, guests popped open bottles of wine and cracked open cans of drinks with their family and friends to make the best memories.
However, the Cranbourne Cup was temporarily paused due to a fire that broke out at the front of the Trios Sports Club next door, and racegoers said they could smell and see the smoke — and ashes — clouding over the turf club.
About 500 patrons were evacuated from the bar — but that didn’t dampen their spirits — as some people made their way to enjoy the rest of their day at the Cranbourne Cup.
Trios was closed for a couple of hours due to the blaze, which was extinguished by fire crews within nine minutes, but then another fire broke out behind the premises not long after, which was also put out.
After the thrilling and successful Melbourne Cup Carnival, it was time for the Melbourne suburbs like Cranbourne to take the racing stage.
Racegoer Jordan Bourne said it was his first time attending the races.
He said the cup was great and he enjoyed all the beers, despite losing some money betting.
“It’s pretty good, the weather has been humid but other than that, it’s good,” Mr Bourne said.
His friend Jake Norling, who had been to the cup a couple of times, said he also had no luck punting.
“No wins — better luck next time,” Mr Norling said.

Melbourne man Lachie Cox said the day was “bloody good” but didn’t have a win either.
Stuart Callow said himself and his friends had fun getting on all the drinks.
Guests were encouraged to don their finest racewear and look their sharpest as the Herald Sun team was there to capture all the photos, and punters indeed striked a pose for the camera.
