Calls are growing for comedian and popular TV personality Sam Pang to host this year’s Logie Awards.

Pang made a big impression with a humorous cameo last year when he accepted an award on behalf of Kitty Flanagan who won Most Popular Actress for Fisk.

Eddie McGuire, a three-time host of television’s night of nights, said Pang would be a solid choice.

“He would be great,’’ McGuire said, warning that it’s not as easy as it looks.

“A Collingwood under 19s player is the answer!”

The Pang momentum escalated recently when leading industry blog TV Tonight said the drums were beating loudly that Pang would be announced as host by Channel 7.

It was reported that Seven chiefs are keen to refresh the night and are convinced he is the man to win over a tough crowd.

Pang, who appears on The Front Bar and Have You Been Paying Attention on Network 10, was part of the Nova breakfast radio team for seven years.

Last year his gags got the room buzzing.

“This is a little bit like in 1973 at the Oscars when Marlon Brando won and he sent up a Native American,’’ he said.

“I had a small part in season one of Fisk. This will be the first time a speech is longer than the role.”

TV expert Colin Vickery said Pang would be a great choice, noting he was asked about the possibility on HYBPA on Monday night and didn’t deny it.

“Pound for pound Sam stacks up against any comedian and is certain to give a few laughs,’’ he said.

“He would be a great decision. Sam has ratings on the board on The Front Bar and HYBPA and it would be good in a promotional sense to have a figurehead. He is very popular with the TV public and is a funny guy.”

Pang previously presented an award in 2017. TV Week will announce nominations on Monday in Sydney, where the awards will place on July 30.
