Belgrave Outdoor Pool holds dog day in the Yarra Ranges on March 9

While dogs are usually fur-bidden from outdoor pools, this Yarra Ranges swim centre is opening its gates for hot-under-the-collar hounds to have a splash — but there are a few rules.

The summer sun is close to clocking off for another season but Belgrave Outdoor Pool is going out with a bang, giving heat-frazzled canines the chance to cool off.

The heated hills pool on Best St is opens to dogs on from 6-7pm on Monday, March 9.

Last year the pool’s dog day was so loved staff have fielded dozens of queries since Christmas.

Belgravia Leisure pool manager Rayanne Hutchins said while dogs would need to be on a lead when out of the pool, they were able to swim freely.

“We put a few extra lifeguards on and it’s all a bit of crazy fun,” Ms Hutchins said.

“Some love it and some are more hesitant.”

“It started a couple of years back when a patron had come back from the UK and he’d been to a pool there that had a dog hour,” Ms Hutchins said.

“The pool manager at the time decided it would be a great idea for Belgrave.”

She said every dog day was held at the end of the season and those who attended were encouraged to give a gold coin donation on entry.

“The community loves it and they spread the word and people come from far and wide,” Ms Hutchins said.

She said the donations go to charity and this year Zoos Victoria Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund would be the worth recipient.

“Healesville Sanctuary are looking after the koalas injured in the fires, so the money will go to helping care for those animals,” Ms Hutchins said.
