Peg and Nick Theobald are expecting a third child. The parents of two have an eight-year-old, Adler, and a 10-year-old-Everson.

In a video that's now received a whopping 17.4 million views, the whole family get involved in their gender reveal celebration for their third child.

In the clip, they can be seen holding onto white cupcakes, about to take bites to reveal the coloured icing inside.

It's all pretty standard stuff - until it isn't...

"I can't breathe"

The family all take a bite of their cupcakes in unison and then open their mouths to show the camera the pink icing inside.

Everyone rushes to congratulate Peg on the newest addition, before Adler turns back around to the camera, still with the cake in his mouth.

He gives a massive grin before he starts grasping onto his throat and having a coughing fit.

Meanwhile, everyone else is still behind him celebrating, completely unaware of what's going on.

Peg says, "I can't breathe," as she tries to contain her tears.

"We barely survived a cupcake gender reveal"

Then, she clocks what's going on. "Are you okay? Oh my goodness, are you okay?" she says while helping Adler.

She then encourages him to spit out the mixture, which he does, before Nick pats him on the back and says, "Take a deep breath buddy."

He finally manages to dislodge the cake and the video ends.

With the incident well behind them now, Peg captioned the clip: "Watch as our family barely survives a cupcake #gendereeveal."

"You almost lost your child"

But people in the comments didn't take such a lighthearted approach.

"You almost lost your child," someone pointed out.

Another said: "How did nobody notice?"

"Gained a girl almost lost a boy," snarked another user.

But others managed to join in on the laughter, with one saying, "The way he kept eye contact while choking to death."

Another wrote: "Telling someone ‘take a breath’ when they’re choking is for sure going to be my new response going forward."

And a third giggled, "I feel so guilty laughing at the poor kiddo. But also, what are we having?"

"Why am I wheezing over the poor kid choking?" asked a different woman.
