Melbourne has been the world’s celebrity playground this month. Now’s your chance to raise a glass this Labour Day long weekend and toast to our local stardom with these A-lister celebrity wines.

2020 19 CRIMES SNOOP CALI ROSE: $18

Blushing peachy pink like a Californian sunset, this strawberry charged rose is more beach bud than serious dinner party sipper. Tastes of ripe strawberries (on a summer evening), Turkish delight, pink grapefruit and nougat to finish. More off-dry, than sticky-icky sweet. Ooh wee. I’m sure the Snoop D.O-double-G would approve.

2020 KYLIE MINOGUE THE COLLECTION PINOT NOIR: $35

Elegant and pretty like the pop princess herself. All cherry red, wet soil, twigs and spice notes on the nose, leaning into more of those raspy red cherry and cranberry flavours at first sip. Lush with fruit with a satin feel going down the hatch. A very Yarra Valley pinot noir. Microscopic tannins hold firm till the end. We can’t get this out of our heads.

2021 PONTING ‘MOWBRAY BOY’ PINOT NOIR: $38

Broody but lightweight and lots of lip smacking freshness. Bounds of black cherries and blood plums, a knock of gentle tannins and spice. An earthiness is evident on the nose, but is well integrated on the palate. A sipper not a slipper. Don’t let this one past the keeper.

AND ONE OVER $40:

2020 ST HUGO SHIRAZ D3R: $70

Turbocharged with blackberries, currants and plums. A well-built machine with body, tannins that nip at the heels and decent acid that keeps everything in check. Give it an air out to reap the best rewards. A touch of graphite, kiss of vanilla and fruit flavour in pole — you can’t go wrong.
