MOMO CHAA

This small joint next to Craigieburn station is Nepalese street food at its best. The food packs a big punch of flavour. Every visit takes me back to my hometown of Kathmandu, Nepal as my 15-year-old self. Momo is a Nepalese dumpling with a spicy sesame sauce, and they do it really well. Try the buffalo Jhol momo — this is no ordinary dumpling, you have to try it to know it.

GOBIND SWEETS

This is a hidden gem that everyone needs to know. I go there weekly, usually for breakfast. As the name suggests, it serves a great variety of Indian sweets. Barfi and jalebi are absolute must-tries, but each dish is full of flavour. The choley bhature — fried bread with chickpeas —is amazing here. Even my 10-month-old son Allium loves the fried bread!

WATERSIDE CAFE

The location of Waterside Cafe is one of the best for breakfast or brunch in the entire north. The food is decent, and the coffee is consistently good but this place is all about the location and atmosphere. The water and park views paint a pretty picture, especially on a nice sunny day. It’s dog friendly as well so it’s my go-to place for coffee and an almond croissant in the morning with my dog and my baby.

TASTE OF AMRITSAR

Taste of Amritsar only recently opened, but be prepared to wait because it has already gained hype around the northern suburbs. Some people go as far as to say it is the actual taste of Punjab (North India) on a plate. The tandoori platter and the biryani are impressive, but most of the dishes I’ve had from here are great. The dishes have an outstanding balance of spice — they’re hot, but very well-balanced, not just chilli.

MIKSA TURKISH GRILL

If you love Turkish food and like Adana kebab but want to try something different to your usual food truck offerings, then this is the place for you. The food transports me back to my travels through Istanbul. It’s made fresh and worth the journey. Miksa competes with one of my all-time favourites, Katik Kebab in Campbellfield.

800 Cooper St, Somerton

MARNONG ESTATE, WINERY

I love this place. It has absolutely beautiful views and an amazing landscape surrounding the beautiful venue and winery. The restaurant, Bankvale Run, has very good wood-fired pizza, and the cellar door has a great range of wines that are produced there.

ROXY KEBABS

I’ve been visiting Roxy Kebabs on my way home from work late at night for years and it is delicious every time. Besides the excellent kebab, there’s much more to this Turkish place. They have fantastic Turkish coffee and tasty sweets as well.
