A tiny Melbourne bar has again been named among the world’s best — snagging a swag of awards in a prestigious global competition overnight.
Caretaker’s Cottage, a tiny 25-seater housed next to an old Gothic church on Lonsdale St, ranked 21 in the World’s 50 Best Bar 2024, inching a further two positions up the charts from last year.
It’s a stellar effort, given Caretaker’s Cottage debuted on the competition’s long-list in 2022 at 60, before impressively jumping to 23rd in 2023.
Caretaker’s Cottage was also named The Best Bar in Australasia and received the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award for dedication to its craft.
Fellow CBD bar Byrdi also ranked on the list at number 35 and Collingwood favourite Above Board scarped into the extended list at 100.
Sydney’s Maybe Sammy was the only other Australian bar to make the top 50.
Run by mates Matthew Sterling, Rob Libecans and Ryan Noreiks, Caretaker’s Cottage shakes up classic and contemporary cocktails, some of which have been inspired by techniques and flavours from world-renowned bars.
Located next to Wesley Church, near hot new restaurant Reed House, Caretaker’s Cottage is best known for its old-school hospitality, solid music selection and Guinness on tap.
