World-class bartender and Loro founder Orlando Marzo shares his favourite Melbourne venues to drink Victorian during the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
ARBORY BAR
Sip on a gin and tonic overlooking Melbourne’s city skyline by the water. Here you can find a wide selection of local gins, my go-to is Wild Forest Gin by Saint Felix. $79.90 per bottle.
1 Flinders Walk, Melbourne
MARION
Drinking local wine while nibbling on Marion’s terrific menu is one of my favourite things. Last time I was there I sipped on a delicious glass of 2020 Hochkirch ‘Blanc’ semillon sauvignon blanc from Henty in southwest Victoria. $17 a glass.
53 Gertrude St, Fitzroy
THE MOON
Dive into local, left-centred wines while listening to cool-chilled, hip-hop at The Moon. I recently had a glass of 2017 Little Reddie “Willoughby Road” nebbiolo from Heathcote, north of Melbourne. $22 a glass.
28 Stanley St, Collingwood
THE EVERLEIGH
Stop at The Everleigh for a London Calling – it’s one of my favourite classic cocktails. Make sure you ask for it to be made with local gin such as Melbourne Gin Company and a local sherry such as Pennyweight, for extra points! $70 per bottle.
Level 1/150-156 Gertrude St, Fitzroy
BLACKHEARTS AND SPARROWS
This bottleshop always has a great selection of local, delicious drops. At the moment I am loving Molly Rose Lager, brewed in the heart of Collingwood. I also can’t resist buying a few local bottles of wine. $6.50 per can.
