$10 white wine named Australia’s best at Dan Murphy’s Decoded Wine Awards 2022

A riesling costing as little as $10 a bottle has been named among the country’s best wines.

All of the Dan Murphy’s Decoded Wine Award winners for 2022.

A $10 riesling has been named one of Australia’s best wines.

Tolley riesling from the Clare Valley in South Australia was crowned the best white wine under $20 at Dan Murphy’s annual Decoded Wine Awards.

An $11 Margaret River chardonnay and $12 Barossa Valley shiraz were also among the winners.

Four Victorian wineries — including three from the Yarra Valley and one from the Mornington Peninsula — also received awards including St Hubert’s which won best value sparkling for its blanc de blancs and Oakridge for its LVS Hazeldene chardonnay in the best fuller white wine over $20 category.

The liquor giant’s wine awards has been held annually since 2020, with more than 1200 wines from here and New Zealand tasted by an expert panel of judges.

Dan Murphy’s head of fine wine Andrew Shedden said the judging panel was made up of experts, buyers and in-store wine merchants from around the country and all wines were judged blindly.

“We created these awards for wine lovers, not experts, and we’ve kept it simple by unpacking what makes these wines stand out and we have wines for all budgets,” he said.

The major difference in this year’s awards is that wines were judged on their Dan Murphy’s membership prices— meaning the Tolley riesling costs $10 for members and $12.99 for non-members.
