A pinot noir costing $7 a bottle has been named as one of Australia’s best value wines. Minchinbury pinot noir, from Sydney’s outer west, won the best lighter style red under $20 category at liquor giant Dan Murphy’s Decoded Wine Awards 2021.
Victorian winery De Bortoli picked up two awards — best value rose for its King Valley drop and the best rose category for it’s La Boheme Act Two pinot noir Rosé.
King Valley’s Pizzini won the best value lighter style white wine over $20 for its pinot grigio.
Dan Murphy’s judging panel of 12 experts tasted more than 1000 wines across four days to name the 10 category and 10 best value wine winners.
Head of Wine Andrew Shedden said wines were judged on likability, not with snooty wine terms.
“In judging the wines, we have also stripped back confusing tasting notes like ‘muscular’ or ‘herbaceous’ and instead focused on why we love these wines and how to best enjoy them to help guide our customers,” he said.
