Melbourne-based Conserving Beauty just won big at the Business of Beauty Awards, proving sustainability in the industry has never been more important.
There’s no doubt that the beauty industry hasn’t always been synonymous with sustainability.
Often hallmarked by plastic packaging, astronomical product volumes, and a lot of money, it’s an industry that has tended to drag its feet when it comes to upgrading practices and formulations to make a net positive impact on the environment, rather than a negative one.
Even today, many multinationals still choose to turn a blind eye to the impact their brands have on the world around them. Fortunately, times are starting to change.
As education around sustainable practices increases, and the consumer volume on social media grows, a brand’s impact (and accountability) has never been more important.
One brand making quite the splash in the sustainable beauty space is none other than Melbourne-based brand Conserving Beauty, which launched in 2021 as the world’s first water responsible beauty brand.
Now, just three years on, Conserving Beauty has won the Social Impact award at the inaugural The Business of Beauty Global Awards in Napa Valley, showing that sustainability in the industry, is far more than just a trend
Founded by Natassia Nicolao Grace, Conserving Beauty is best known for its innovative and waterless formulas.
In 2022, with a Bachelor of Science and years spent working on formulations in the beauty industry under her belt, Grace created the world’s first dissolvable face wipe, revolutionising the notion of disposal for beauty brands.
Within two years, she then rolled out similar formulations to create totally dissolvable sheet masks, pimple patches and makeup wipes. It’s no wonder she took out the award.
“We are incredibly honoured and humbled to have won the inaugural Business Of Beauty Global Award for Social Impact,” Grace tells Body+Soul.
“As an entrepreneur in the beauty space, The Business of Fashion (BoF) has always been my go-to for global industry news, inspiration, and innovation. So, to see our Australian brand celebrated on a global stage, by some of the industry's most accomplished business leaders leaves me speechless.
“This is a remarkable milestone for our Australian innovation, and the ultimate validation that we are making a difference within the industry and carving the way for other like-minded brands.”
This may be the first time BoF has held an awards ceremony for beauty, but with small brands like Conserving Beauty cropping up – and making one hell of an impact – aren’t we glad there’s a platform to celebrate brands making a positive impact their business?
