Haimona Titoko told the Werribee Magistrates’ Court he “just wanted to feel good” when he went for a solo drive to Wyndham Village Shopping Centre in March last year.
The court heard the 30-year-old failed to hand over his details to the owner of the uninsured red BMW following the incident at the Sayers Rd shops.
“I got out of the car to speak to (the owner) but when he raised his voice at me I got scared and left,” Mr Titoko said.
He told the court he went for a drive to cheer himself up.
“I just wanted to feel good because I was depressed and stuff so I went to meet a friend,” he said.
Mr Titoko was placed on a six-month good behaviour bond and fined $300 without conviction.
He must also repay $2282.89 to the owner of the BWM.
