Wyndham: Truganina, Tarneit and Hoppers Crossing top virus hot spots

New government health data has pointed to three trouble plagued Wyndham suburbs where virus clusters continue to hover at unacceptably high levels. SEE WHERE YOUR SUBURB RANKS

Truganina, Tarneit and Hoppers Crossing have emerged as Wyndham’s largest virus clusters, with more than 500 active infections currently raging across all three suburbs.

The latest DHHS figures obtained by the Leader reveal postcode 3029, which includes the suburbs of Tarneit, Hoppers crossing and Truganina, is Victoria’s most virus plagued locality.

The data shows 571 cases have been detected in those areas.

Wyndham’s local government boundary includes Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and part of Truganina.

It also includes part of Little River, part of Mount Cottrell and part of Eynesbury and Laverton.

More than 1900 virus infections have been recorded across Wyndham since the pandemic began, and there were 544 active cases across Wyndham as of late Thursday.

Postcode 3030, which encompasses Werribee, Werribee South, Quandong, Cocoroc and Point Cook, had the state’s second highest number of active cases at 210.

Infections across the rest of Wyndham’s postcodes dropped to double digits as virus case numbers across the state continue their downward trend.

Postcode 3338, home to Eynesbury, had 83 active cases yesterday, while postcode 3028, which includes the Wyndham suburb of Laverton as well as the Hobsons Bay suburbs of Seabrook and Altona Meadows, had 57 cases.

Wyndham Vale, Mt Cottrell, Mambourin and Manor Lakes share postcode 3024 with the Melton suburb of Fieldstone, clocked up 48 cases on Thursday.

The safest Wyndham postcodes included Little River, (postcode 3211), which had only six current infections, and Williams Landing, (postcode 3027), which had 14 infections.

Postcode 3026, which includes Laverton North and as well as the Brimbank suburb of Derrimut, had 12 active cases yesterday.

Stage 4 restrictions are in place across Wyndham and the wider metropolitan Melbourne area until at least September 13.

Face masks remain mandatory for all Victorians when outside of the home.
