Wyndham police arrest six people in Melbourne’s west over Gumtree and Facebook car scams
Two teenagers are among six people arrested for allegedly scamming Melbourne buyers for second-hand cars on Gumtree and Facebook. And you won’t believe how many car theft charges one of them has copped.

A teenager has been charged with more than 30 counts of car theft following a series of arrests in Melbourne’s west for alleged online scams.
Wyndham detectives arrested six people aged between 17-21 on Friday, August 21 at houses in Tarneit, Truganina and Hoppers Crossing as part of an alleged car scam investigation.
Investigators believe the scam had been going for three months and involved victims across Melbourne selling second-hand cars on Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace.
They also seized items including documents and electronic devices.
An 18-year-old Tarneit man was charged with 33 counts of car theft, obtaining property by deception and dealing in proceeds of crime.
Two others were also slapped with similar charges, including 34 counts of car theft for a 21-year-old Truganina man and seven counts of car theft for a 20-year-old Tarneit man.
The three men were remanded and set to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, August 22.
Two 20-year-old Tarneit men were also charged with car theft and bailed to appear at the Werribee Magistrates’ Court on November 24.
A 17-year-old was charged with car theft, obtaining property by deception and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
The teenager was bailed to appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.
