Witness appeal after motorcyclist killed in Point Cook crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 29-year-old motorcyclist died following a crash in Melbourne’s west.

Preliminary investigation details tragedy of Victoria police crash

Police are investigating after a 29-year-old Point Cook motorcyclist died following a fatal crash at Point Cook.

It’s understood a motorcycle and a car collided on Saltwater Promenade in Point Cook shortly after 7pm on April 24.

The rider, a 29-year-old Point Cook man, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died 10 days later on May 4.

On Wednesday a Victoria Police spokesman said investigators were keen to speak with anyone who witnessed, or had dashcam footage.

The spokesman said the driver of the car, a 56-year-old Point Cook woman, was not injured in the crash and is assisting police with their investigation.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, with dashcam footage or further information is urged to call Crime Stoppers,” he said.

Sadly, 89 people have died on Victorian roads in 2022, including 23 motorcyclists – a 53 per cent increase on the five-year average of 15.

Transport Accident Commission road safety head Samantha Cockfield issued an urgent warning earlier this month, saying the increasing number of motorcyclists dying had “devastated” communities.

“While motorbikes represent just four per cent of registered vehicles, riders make up for 16 per cent of deaths and 20 per cent of serious injuries on Victorian roads,” she said.

“It is up to all of us to make our roads safe and, whether we’re on two wheels or four.”
