Waurn Ponds police shooting: Man in hospital after being shot

A man has been shot by police investigating a noise complaint after he allegedly charged at them with a shovel in Waurn Ponds just before midnight.

Police have shot a man in Waurn Ponds, near Geelong, after he allegedly charged at them with a shovel on Wednesday night.

Police arrived at a Willesden Drive property just before midnight after receiving a noise complaint.

But when they approached the house the man allegedly charged at them armed with a shovel.

One of the officers shot the man in the lower body as he got closer to them.

A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Armed Crime Squad detectives will investigate the incident which will be oversighted by Professional Standards Command, as per standard protocol when a police firearm is discharged.
