Melton’s Gagandeep Singh taken off road after dangerous motorbike ride

A revhead mechanic who blasted his Harley to a shocking 230km/h on a western suburbs road won’t be riding high on his hog for a long time.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty in Sunshine Magistrates Court to dangerous driving.

A revhead mechanic clocked doing 230km/h on a Harley Davidson was riding a “coffin with two wheels”, a court has heard.

Gagandeep Singh pleaded guilty in Sunshine Magistrates’ Court to dangerous driving before copping a fine and 12-month disqualification following his dangerous high-speed ride last year.

The court heard that on October 31, Singh was observed by police hooning on the Western Freeway in Melton, with officers at first estimating his speed was in excess of 150km/h.

During the following pursuit, police then detected the 28-year-old doing 230km/h near a truck stop on Coburns Rd.

Singh, a qualified diesel mechanic, was then pulled over and apologised for his speeding before telling police his father was unwell and he needed to get to him.

Police then asked if an ambulance had been called, and questioned whether he believed travelling more than twice the speed limit was justified.

Police prosecutors told Magistrate Amina Bhai that Singh was immediately remorseful and accepted it was dangerous for himself and others.

His Harley was impounded for 30 days.

In court, Singh’s lawyer said he had an impeccable driving record with no infringements during his decade on the road before the incident.

Mr Noureddine said his client was “deeply ashamed” and “remorseful” and it was “fortunate” no one was killed or seriously injured.

“Your Honour, at those speeds it was no longer a motorcycle but a coffin with two wheels,” Mr Noureddine said.

Magistrate Bhai disqualified Singh from obtaining a driver’s licence for 12 months.

He was also fined $600 and placed on an undertaking where he must complete a defensive driver training course.

No conviction was recorded.
