Melton West house fire leaves victim in hospital, house destroyed

A home has been destroyed and the occupant left injured after a home went up in flames in Melton.

A person has been taken to hospital after their house went up in flames in Melton West on Monday afternoon.

Fire-fighters were called to the Balmoral Place address about 3.00pm after occupant of the address called triple-0 to report their house on fire.

The caller stated the lounge room was on fire and Fire Rescue Victoria appliances en route said they could see a column of smoke in the vicinity of the address.

When the first truck arrived they found the single-storey brick home fully engulfed with flames threatening a nearby property.

Fire-fighters wearing breathing apparatus surrounded the home, protecting the threatened home next door.

An aerial unit and a rescue unit were called to assist.

The fire was declared under control almost an hour later.

Ambulance Victoria attended to assess the occupant for burns to hands and possible smoke inhalation.

They have been transported to hospital for further treatment.

Victoria Police and CFA were also on scene assisting with operations.

The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
