A western suburbs man parted ways with his vehicle over the weekend after he was allegedly clocked at 169km/h — more than twice the speed limit.

Brimbank police were patrolling the Deer Park area when they say they spotted a Nissan GTR Coup travelling at a “very fast rate” near Westwood Dr on Ballarat Rd.

About 9.20pm on Sunday, the vehicle was allegedly detected at 169km/h where the speed limit was 80km/h.

The vehicle was intercepted and impounded for 30 days at a cost of $999.

The driver, a Keilor Downs man in his 30s, received a summons for speeding in a manner dangerous and exceeding the speed by 45km/h or greater.

He is expected to appear in court later this year.

A Melton police spokesman said it appeared some road users had not understood recent road safety messaging.

“Speed is one of the leading contributors to serious injury and death on our roads,” the spokesman said.
