A man who allegedly killed another at a Moorabool property last week has appeared in court for the first time.

Aaron Bernath, 35, was charged with murder over the weekend after the man, George Bernath, was flown from a Maddingley property with life-threatening injuries and died in hospital on Friday.

George Bernath, who was known to the accused, had been found with life threatening injuries at a property on Stonehill Dr, Maddingley just before 8pm Thursday.

Mr Bernath, also from Maddingley, appeared in person from custody at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning for a filing hearing.

Wearing a grey sweater with a blue shirt underneath, Mr Bernath was sporting a light beard.

His lawyer Emma Turnbull requested the matter be adjourned for at least 14 weeks due to the number of exhibits involved in the case.

Magistrate Vincenzo Caltabiano adjourned the matter for a committal case conference on May 30.

Mr Bernath was directed to appear via video from custody on that day.

The informant, detective senior constable Scott Harris from the Homicide Squad, was given until April 18 for service of the hand up brief.

Due to the charge, no bail application was made.
