There is a new attraction in Werribee — and no, it did not escape from the zoo.
Jerry the Giraffe has been randomly popping up across the suburb, putting smiles on faces, attracting a lot of attention on social media.
Jerry reaches 2.5m and is made out of a 44 gallon drum, and has been spotted near
main roads, parks and even at the Werribee Zoo.
While the identity of Jerry’s maker remains a mystery, the person behind Jerry’s Instagram account saidthey have enjoyed seeing a “positive response” from locals.
“The plan was to put a few smiles on faces,” they said.
“I’ve been surprised seeing the response and attention he’s received around town. I’m glad everyone has got a good laugh out of it.”
Werribee resident Catherine Gracias said locals have loved spotting Jerry.
“It’s such a simple thing to do but people have responded so well to the idea of Jerry popping up in random places and it brings some joy during our tough times,” she said.
Jerry’s adventures — which are documented on Instagram — have taken him to the Werribee zoo, in front of houses, busy roads and parks.
