Mystery minion letterboxes popping up in Warrak

A strange phenomenon is surging through a country town in western Victoria, with minion letterboxes popping up in front of homes overnight.

Warrak residents are waking up to handmade minion letter boxes concreted on their properties in a mystery creating a buzz among locals.

Made from recycled materials, the minions have been concreted in front of properties overnight, each of which have been decorated specifically for the residents receiving them.

The first minion was strategically installed during the Warrak community Christmas party, with three more delivered since.

Collingwood, Melbourne Demons and Ned Kelly themed minions are among those installed, with these made mostly from recycled gas bottles and pipes.

Jane Goninon, co-owner of local winery Mountainside Wines, said the mystery had created “a lot of fun” among locals.

“We all love it, everyone has been looking everyday on our community Facebook group to see if any more have been installed,” she said.

“It’s a bit of fun and word has got out to the other towns now, so we’ve had people driving out here to have a look.

“Each minion is related to the person. We haven’t got one yet but I’d imagine ours would be something wine related, maybe a minion holding a glass of red.”

The identity of the minions’ maker so far remains a mystery.

While Ms Goninon suspects it is a local, she says there were “lots of farmers capable” capable of building these letterboxes in the town 20km east of Ararat, with a population of around 65.

“No one knows who it is but I guess that’s part of the fun,” she said.
