A TEENAGE boy was allegedly stabbed at a school in Hoppers Crossing on Wednesday in an altercation that has marred the full-time return to face-to-face learning.

Police were called to Hoppers Crossing Secondary College on Fraser St about 11.30am following reports of the alleged attack.

The victim, a teenage boy, sustained minor injuries in the schoolyard brawl and was taken to The Royal Children’s Hospital for treatment.

He is in a stable condition with upper body injuries.

The Herald Sun has been told parents were called by their children telling them they had been locked down in the school’s gym after reports of the stabbing.

Dianne, who did not disclose her surname, told 3AW of the chaos.

“It was quite a big knife,” she said.

“It’s my grandson’s friend so it’s sad, but he’s going to be all right.”

The alleged offender is assisting police with their inquiries and, as of Wednesday night, no charges had been laid.

It is not known what provoked the incident.

Police examined the scene for clues in the aftermath of the incident, methodically scouring for evidence. Hoppers Crossing Secondary College, a single campus coeducational college, declined to comment.

The Department of Education said it was a matter for police.

“The school principal has contacted parents and carers of the students,” a spokeswoman said.

On-site counselling will be available for students on Thursday. Parents said the incident had left them “shocked”.

“Last week we had the double stabbing in Tarneit and the 11-year-old at the school in Tarneit,” one parent wrote on social media.

“This week we have three stabbings over three days.”

Another parent said: “Three stabbing in two days is a bit of a coincidence.”

Parents said they were also “concerned” as they were not notified by the school about the incident.

“It’s not hard to send out a notification so that you don’t have a whole lot of parents worried about their kids,” one parents said

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

On-site counselling will be available for students tomorrow. In addition, students can contact Lifeline (13 1114) or Kids Help Line (1800 55 1800). Parentline can be contacted on 13 22 89.
