Fire crews frantically searched for a missing teen inside a burning building after a house fire in Melbourne’s west Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene of a single-storey brick house fire at Ruby Pl, Werribee about 8am Thursday.
Neighbouring residents alerted authorities and noted there were several children inside the home at the time of the fire.
When paramedics arrived, two children were let out but there were fears a third child, a 14-year-old, was unaccounted for.
Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus then entered the burning building and conducted a search, but they were later informed the teen had already left for school.
The fire was brought under control about 8.30am and crews ensured it did not spread to neighbouring properties.
Two children, aged 9 and 11, were taken to Werribee Mercy Hospital in a stable condition.
It is understood the fire started on a cooktop, which then spread to the rangehood and into the roof which caused considerable damage to the home.
Police were also at the scene and confirmed the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
