A young Melburnian and infrequent lotto player who purchased his ticket “for a laugh” is now revelling in a life-changing win after pocketing $5m over the weekend.

A Maribyrnong man in his 20s has been identified as one of four division-one winners from the TattsLotto draw on Saturday night.

His winning entry was purchased at Nextra in the Highpoint Shopping Centre but the ticket was not registered to a player card so officials had no way of contacting the lucky winner.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, admitted to officials he did not play regularly before revealing the random events which led to his purchase.

“I’m still in shock. I can’t believe it. I’ve had no sleep at all,” he told an official from The Lott on Wednesday.

“I’d totally forgotten about this ticket. I bought it last week and when I was at work yesterday I realised I had not checked it.

“This is very random. I don’t play that regularly.

“We were just at the shopping centre and had something to eat, as we were walking out, I thought, let’s get a lottery ticket for a laugh.”

He recalled that just before he entered the line a man had purchased the same type of ticket, and said it was “insane” that his turned out to be the winner.

He vowed to continue working but revealed he planned to get married and buy his first home soon and the win would certainly help set up his future family life.

Nextra Highpoint owner Raj Parbhakar was “extremely excited” when he learned his outlet had sold a division-one winning entry.

The last division-one winning entry sold at the outlet for TattsLotto was in February 2020 and it was worth almost $1.1m.

Across Australia, there were four division-one winning entries in TattsLotto draw 4467 – two in Victoria and one each from Queensland and Western Australia.
