A father in Melbourne’s west held the teenager who allegedly robbed and beat his 11-year-old son until police could arrive and arrest him.

Police say the young boy was at the fast food outlet in Truganina about 7pm on January 8 when he was approached by a group of four males.

The group allegedly assaulted him before stealing his phone.

Shortly after, the young victim’s father attended the restaurant allegedly finding one of the perpetrators, an 18-year-old from Truganina, nearby.

He held the man at the scene and waited for police to arrive.

Police later executed two search warrants on January 12 and 19, taking another two males, a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old Truganina man, alleged to have been involved in the robbery into custody.

The trio were linked to two carjackings which allegedly occurred in Southbank and Truganina in late December.

Two males allegedly attacked a 24-year-old man outside a Victoria St house just before midnight on December 28.

A third male allegedly approached before the group stole the man’s Ford Falcon, although it’s not alleged he was involved in the assault.

Police say the victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his lower body.

Later the same night, a man was assaulted by a group of males and females on Baston St in Southbank about 2.45am before his vehicle was also allegedly stolen.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the three males have been remanded in custody ahead of their next court dates.

The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated carjacking, theft of motor vehicle and robbery and will next appear in the Melbourne Children’s Court in February.

The 19-year-old man was charged with aggravated carjacking and robbery and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

The 18-year-old man was charged with carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, robbery, handling stolen goods and breaching a court order.

He will next appear in Werribee Magistrates’ Court on January 25.
